BLOG #9
This past weekend I went to Vermont and stayed at my friends Lake House on Lake Seymour. 7 of my best friends for home went up to the house for a three day weekend. The trip consisted of fishing, boats, jet skis, grilling burgers, and drinking beer. Yet, more importantly amazing company and a chance to disconnect from the real world.
At the cabin, there is no internet service. I never used my phone or looked at a screen. It was just me, friends, and beautiful lake landscapes. It was peaceful. Simple.
After all the things going on in my life, I needed a few days to unwind. As I sat on the front of the boat going full speed into the wind I could not help but think about how quickly my life is going to change. This could be the last time in years that I am together with my friends. These guys have been my best friends since elementary school. We have grown up together in the small town of Westfield, MA.
We have all come to the point where we are heading out into different directions. One of my friends has already moved to Las Vegas. I am going to be next once my Praxis apprenticeship starts. And the rest have plans to finish up school, find jobs, and move out of our hometown.
Regardless of where we all end up, or whenever the next time we all get together, we’ll always have a special bond. These guys are the type of friends that if I don’t see them for 5 years, it will be like I saw them yesterday. I know people always say that friends will come and go in your life, but I honestly believe these guys will always be apart of my life.
Going to Vermont together as a crew has become a tradition. Tradition is what makes us accountable to the people we care about. Tradition brings family and friends together. It’s important to always honor tradition.
At the end of the day, what truly matters in life is the relationships you make. No matter how successful you are, how much money, or possessions you have, it doesn’t mean anything if you don’t have people to spend your life with.
This is a shout out to my friends, no matter where we end up, I will always be there for you.
