BLOG #8
I have always had a love for cooking. I would find myself always making the most outrageous grilled sandwiches growing up. Pineapple on a burger. Gourmet grilled cheeses with Onion jam. Homemade buffalo chicken pizza, and slow cooked bbq pulled chicken.
My dream someday is to own my own diner/sandwich shop, with all my grilled creations on the menu. My love for cooking started when I was a young kid making breakfast for dinner for my family on Sunday nights. Yet this passion grew stronger in college because of a YouTube cooking show.
Brothers Green Eats. Brothers Josh and Mike Greenfield teach people how to cook without all the fancy gadgets, pro kitchens, or expensive ingredients. They are the ultimate teachers for young cooks or people you are seeking inspiration in the kitchen.
In college, once I graduated from dorm living and had access to a kitchen, I rarely ever went to the dining hall. I had to do my own grocery shopping and cook all of my meals.
I had never had to go out and buy my own groceries or had to prepare all of my meals before. And as a college student I did not have a lot of money and could not afford to order take out 3 times a week. I needed to learn how to stay motivated in the kitchen and at the same time be economical and budget out my spending on groceries.
I started watching Brothers Green Eats daily before bed and they helped me write a grocery list, how to plan out and prepare meals for the week, and how to also have variety in my meals without having to spend too much.
Not only did Josh and Mike Greenfield help me be a better cook, they taught me how important it is to be passionate about everything in life. Some days its hard to get yourself to prepare three meals a day. The preparation, clean-up takes time and effort, but staying inspired and trying new things in the kitchen was often the most exciting parts of my day. I would often cook for my friends and they were impressed with the dishes I was making.
Homemade pizza with dough made from scratch, southwest chipotle coleslaw, steak and cheese with sauteed peppers and onions, slow cooked chili, and hand-battered onion rings. I made bar-style appetizers and dishes all the time. Watching Brothers Green Eats inspired me to try new things and made cooking seem easy and a way to connect with people!
That’s why I want to own a restaurant. To connect my love for cooking with hungry people. Food brings people together.
